Practical planning considerations for educators returning to the UK after years abroad.
Returning to the UK after a career overseas involves more than booking a flight. Tax residency, State Pension position, property, healthcare and estate planning all need to be coordinated around the date you become UK resident again.
Resuming UK work usually rebuilds your National Insurance record, but timing matters. Returning partway through a tax year can create unexpected tax consequences, and any voluntary contributions you were paying while abroad may need to be reviewed.
The order in which you do these things often matters as much as the things themselves.
